Dogs must be carried!
Author: Alison Glennon / 0 comments
Finally, an end to one of the biggest deterrents to using the London Underground - the statement at the top of the escalator that 'dogs must be carried'. In reality, the outdated byelaw requiring all dogs to be carried (yes, yes, I know that's what it means, but it isn't what it says!!) on escalators has finally changed for guid ...

Daily Telegraph article - Pawprints the health benefits of walking the dog
Author: Alison Glennon / 0 comments
A great article called "Pawprints: the health benefits of walking the dog" has appeared in the Daily Telegraph - the comment about revision time really resonates with me as my son is going through his A levels and my twin daughters through their GCSEs (it's good in my house!!).
Dylan the boxer and Nelly the cat are finding their de-stressing and supplier of fresh air and exercise services being called upon bigtime!

A stroke of good duck!

Just thought I'd share this tale from the BBC website - thankfully with a happy ending - of Spike the Patterdale terrier who had an intact rubber duck surgically removed - 18 months after swallowing it!
Snow way to start the year....
Author: Alison Glennon / 0 comments

While some of us welcomed the weather at first, and marvelled at our first real nationally-shared winter experience for many years - for many of us the snow has become an inconvenience at best and a hazard at worst.
Some of us though, just want to have fun! Dylan sees no problem with asking for a game of footbal!!
Dogs v Cats - the New Scientist showdown!
Author: Alison Glennon / 0 comments
So, the eminent publication New Scientist has got itself embroiled in the dogs v cats debate, on which are smarter. And, at the risk of the wrath of cat people, they put dogs on top, by a whisker.
Its 'Great Pet Showdown' pits cats against dogs looking at brains, shared history, bonding, popularity, understanding, problem solving, vocalisation, tractability, supersenses, ecofriendliness and utility, with dogs just making a late bid on health benefits.

350 years of the Royal Society
Author: Alison Glennon / 0 comments
Whan NOAH made the first pilot showing of the embryonic Pet Health Information website to pet care specialists, veterinary associations and companion animal charities nearly 2 years ago, we chose to do it at the Royal Society headquarters. We were very aware we had chose a place of great history, and evidence of scientific breakthroughs was all around.
Now the Royal Society is celebrating 350 years of discovery, and there's a fascinating slide show - and further background information - on the BBC website< ...

Farewell to an old friend

It has been a couple of weeks now, and finally I can write this - my handsome old cat Christie has died.
We were not sure of his true age, but judging my what we were told by the rescue home he came from, we think he was around 15 (we had him when he was 8) - and only a month or so back we had been remarking on how well he was looking - summer coat through, gleaming, out and about and eating well.
Then suddenly overnight he seemed to lose weight - not surprisingly, as he stopped eating. Last time this happened it was a tooth infection, and a course of antibiotics ...
