New Dog On The Blog…

Posted on by Alison Glennon

Cute Kane, February 2007Kane, a 7 year old 48kg GSD rescue dog from the Mayhew Animal Home in Willesden, Emma (old enough) and Chris (even older) live in Walthamstow and walk mostly at Wansted flats and Coppermill Lane/Lee Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty but you have to keep your wits about you!

Sunday 27th July

Well, we’ve really turned a corner with Kane. Seamus and Phil popped round to say hello. Phil is a neighbour who we think looked like a previous owner of Kane’s who was mean to him. We think this because Kane took an instant dislike to him when we first introduced them. He seems to dislike any middle aged, portly men with greying hair (that’s nearly a third of the population). Since getting this little dog, Kane has been much more tolerant of Phil and will even except bribery in the form of meaty dog treats in exchange for a pat on the head. Anyway, I’m already digressing and I’ve only just got going!

Seamus is an old sandy coloured rough coated terrier who Phil and his wife Sian inherited when Sian’s Mum sadly passed away recently. He’s a dear little chap and has a big personality for such a small pooch. They came to our front gate to say howdy doodie and Seamus shot in through the front door and started tucking into Kane’s leftovers from his ‘dinny-dinner’. Well Kane the great big lummox ran after him and my heart was in my mouth. Seamus however wasn’t phased by him at all and had a nice snack and a little drink of water whilst he was about it. Kane just stood over him desperately trying to be dominant but dear old Seamus just didn’t care and when he was finished he just tootled back out to his master in the front garden. There was no gnashing of teeth and no bullying and Kane passed the test as the model host and even played ball with Seamus. Now, if we could just get him to behave a little better around new human visitors….
