Background
Goldfish (Carassius auratus) were one of the earliest fish to be domesticated and are one of the most common aquarium and pond kept fish. They are the domesticated version of the brown carp native to Asia and are usually 5cm to 7cm long.
Tropical fish is a term referring to fish found in tropical environments around the world. They can be both freshwater fish that are iridescent and marine (saltwater) which are brightly coloured. They vary wildly in size from approximately 2cm in length.
Lifespan
The lifespan of goldfish is usually 4 to 5 years, although some have been known to live up to 20 years. The lifespan of tropical fish vary greatly from breed to breed.
